SUMMARY:Virtual Field Day: Evaluating Manure Application and Cover Crop
Planting Timing to Maximize Water Quality Benefits in Corn
DESCRIPTION:To participate in the live virtual field day at 1:00 pm CT o
 n March 12\, click this URL: https://iastate.zoom.us/j/91411984892.\n\n\
n\nIowa Learning Farms (ILF)\, in partnership with the Iowa Nutrient Res
earch Center\, will host a virtual field day on Thursday\, Mar. 12\, at
1 p.m. CT. The event\, which is available at no cost\, will feature a li
ve discussion with Dan Andersen\, associate professor and extension agri
culture engineering specialist at Iowa State University\, Raj Raman\, Mo
rrill Professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering and Philip Ro
ckson\, agricultural and biosystems engineering graduate research assist
ant at ISU.\n\n\n\nThe virtual field day aims to provide valuable insigh
ts into the impacts of different cover crop systems and manure applicati
on methods on water quality and corn yield.\n\n\n\n“We've done a fair
amount of work on the timing of manure application\, looking at late fal
l manure versus early fall manure impacts on corn yield and water qualit
y\, knowing that some people are stressed about ‘When can we get manur
e on in the fall?’\,” noted Andersen. “We saw huge timing response
s\, and one of the next questions was ‘How much different is it when y
ou move manure application to spring?’”\n\n\n\nIn this innovative pr
oject\, funded in part by the Iowa Nutrient Research Center\, the focus
is on how timing affects yield and water quality when comparing fall and
spring manure applications.\n\n\n\nAny person interested in cover crops
\, manure application or water quality is welcome to attend the virtual
field day. Participants are also encouraged to bring any questions they
would like to ask.\n\n\n\nTo participate in the live virtual field day\,
visit Iowa Learning Farms Field Days Evaluating Manure Application and

or join from a dial-in phone line (Dial: 646-876-9923 or 646-931-3860\,
Meeting ID: 914 1198 4892). The field day will be recorded and archived
on the ILF Virtual Field Day Archive for future viewing.\n\n\n\nParticip
ants may be eligible for a Certified Crop Adviser board-approved continu
ing education unit. Information about how to apply for and receive the C
EU will be provided at the end of the event.
